In the last ten overs, Gujarat Titans conceded 139 runs in the first IPL 2025 encounter against Punjab Kings, which cost them dearly. Punjab went on to score a massive 243/5, which was 11 runs more than what the Titans could score in the second innings (232/5) despite dew playing a huge factor in the run chase.
At the post-match presentation, Titans’ skipper Shubman Gill rued their display in the back end of the Punjab innings. In the last five overs, the pair of Shashank Singh and Shreyas Iyer amassed a massive 87 runs, which was enough to take the game away from the opponents.
"We got our chances when we were bowling and batting. Too many runs we conceded in the back end of the innings... In those three overs in the middle, we scored around 18 runs,” Gill said in the post-match presentation.
Gujarat didn’t really make a case for themselves in the powerplay during the chase, where they could only score 17 runs, popping the air out of the run chase.
“That, and our first three overs we didn't score many runs. That cost us the game. Apart from that, many positives for us today. It's not easy for someone to come and deliver those yorkers for someone who is on the bench. It's always a good wicket to bat on here."
Gill's men next take Mumbai Indians on March 29 (Saturday), where they have a chance to make a comeback.
