We were 20 runs short but executed bowling plans: Supernovas captain Harmanpreet

Supernovas outclassed Trailblazers by 49 runs in the first match of the 2022 Women's T20 Challenge

Supernovas captain Harmanpreet Kaur was happy that her team was able to execute their bowling plans in the 2022 Women's T20 Challenge opener against Trailblazers on Monday.

Defending 164 on a good batting pitch at the MCA Stadium in Pune, Pooja Vastrakar starred with 4-12 while spinners Alana King (2-30) and Sophie Ecclestone (2-19) were assisted by good fielding efforts in a 49-run win.

Harmanpreet, who top scored for her side with 37 off 29 balls, felt that it was a proper game for her team.

"The way we wanted to bowl in the second innings, we did really well. Whatever we planned we were able to execute. Proper game for us," she said at the post-match presentation.

Batting first, Supernovas kept losing wickets at regular intervals after openers Deandra Dottin (32 off 17 balls) and Priya Punia (22 off 20 balls) put up 50 in 5 overs. Harmanpreet felt that her team were 20 runs short.

"I think we were 20 runs short. Whenever I was thinking to execute myself, we were losing wickets. That's why I had to stay there, look for ones and twos," she said.

Harmanpreet and Harleen Deol (35 off 19 balls) added 37 for the third wicket after which Supernovas lost their way.

"We need to look for partnerships. Weren't able to do that after Harleen and mine. Pooja did a great job for us - that's what we were expecting from her. We just need to come back with the same motion," he said.

Trailblazers skipper Smriti Mandhana felt that her team lost their way after the ninth over while chasing.

" We were at par with them till the 9th over, but lost track. We need to take more singles and doubles, that is something that is underrated," she said.
