4, 0, and now 3 - Cameron Green continues to struggle in his new batting position for Australia in Test cricket. The 26-year-old was dismissed cheaply once again on Day 1 of the first Test against West Indies in Barbados on June 25 (Wednesday).
After returning from injury, Green was promoted to bat at No.3 in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa. However, the big all-rounder struggled against the moving ball and was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in the slip cordon in both innings.
Despite those failures, Australian Test captain Pat Cummins made it clear that the team sees Green as a long-term option at No. 3. The selectors even decided to drop Marnus Labuschagne, who is also going through a rough patch.
On the first morning of the Barbados Test against West Indies, Shamar Joseph dismissed opener Sam Konstas in the fourth over, bringing Green to the crease early. The right-hander survived a scare in the same over when he edged one straight to gully, where Brandon King put down a straightforward chance.
It appeared that Green had been handed the perfect opportunity to make amends. However, the 26-year-old failed to capitalise, never looking comfortable at the crease. Eventually, he edged another Joseph delivery, and this time Justin Greaves held on at second slip.
Green departed for just 3 off 21 balls as his struggles at No.3 continued.
