In a shocking set of events, Australia’s leading pace bowler, Mitchell Starc, withdrew from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on February 12 (Wednesday) and Steve Smith was named the captain of the side that will feature in the ICC tournament.
With that, the Australian team will now be without its three main pacers-Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Starc in an ICC competition for the first time in 14 years. The 2011 World Cup was the last event when the trio did not play in a World event.
However, back then, only Hazlewood and Strac had made their ODI debuts for Australia. But since then, there have been many events in which at least one of them or even two of them have not been available. However, there has been no such instance that the trio have missed an entire tournament.
