When Will India Play Their Next ODI?

India last played an ODI in the Champions Trophy

India are the number one-ranked one-day international (ODI) team at the moment, and yet, haven’t played an ODI since the Champions Trophy in the UAE and Pakistan. They reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and also won the Champions Trophy organised in 2025.

However, despite that, there are no ODIs scheduled for them until October 19, when the Indian ODI side will travel to Australia to play three ODIs.

Earlier, a series was supposed to be organised with Bangladesh in August; however, both the boards deferred it to next year.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026,” the joint statement said.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams.”

India’s two biggest batting superstars of this generation, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, only play ODI cricket for India after having retired from Test and T20I cricket. Hence, the wait for ODIs already seems longer for their fans and others alike. As per reports, neither is an automatic selection and might have to prove their fitness and form before the series.

After the three ODIs in Australia, India are scheduled to play six ODIs at home against South Africa and New Zealand between December 2025 and January 26. After that, India will only play ODIs in July when they’ll be on a white ball tour of England.
