Whoever adapts better will win the match: Virat Kohli

The right-handed batter stressed on the importance of playing according to the conditions and not having any expectations on the nature of the pitch

The summit clash of the second edition of the World Test Championship is all set to kickstart on June 7 at the Oval, with India locking horns against Australia for the coveted trophy.

While the Indian players will set foot at the venue on the back of a two-month-long Indian Premier League, Australia will have plenty of players well-rested and rejuvenated for the final.

Ahead of the marquee clash, Virat Kohli stated that playing at the Oval would prosses a different kind of challenge to the players. “I think The Oval will be challenging, we won’t get a flat wicket, and batters need to be cautious," he said in a conversation with Star Sports.

Traditionally the surface at the Oval is known to be conducive for spinners across the nation, but Kohli believes the team will have to play according to the conditions and not past records.

"We will need to concentrate on our focus and discipline. So you need to have the experience to play as per the conditions, and we cannot go in with the expectation that The Oval pitch will play as it always has."

"We have to adjust and adapt. We have only one match in a neutral venue, so whoever adapts better will win the match," he added.

The 34-year-old also added that the beauty of the World Test Championship is to test the skill set of the players at the highest level under pressure, which makes it very exciting.

"This is the beauty of the World Test Championship, two neutral teams with no home advantage, so it will be very exciting to see how both teams adapt to the situation," he concluded.
