Why Didn't Gautam Gambhir Credit Kohli, Rohit After ODIs vs South Africa? Former India Batter Asks
Rohit slammed a couple of fifties in the series, while Kohli smashed two tons in three innings
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are currently ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in the ICC ODI rankings. They played a huge role in India's series win over South Africa recently. In fact, Kohli scored over 300 across the three ODIs, including a couple of centuries, to earn the Player of the Series award.
Rohit also put in a couple of superb performances, hitting two fifties in three innings. However, there have been plenty of reports of rift between head coach Gautam Gambhir and the tw batting stars, which further became evident when Gambhir did not acknowledge their contributions after the series.
Former India batter Robin Uthappa feels it is not right on Gambhir's part to overlook their contributions.
“What I found surprising is the post-match of that series, in the press conference, I didn’t see Gautam giving credit to either Rohit or Virat," Uthappa said on his YouTube channel.
“Here are a couple of guys who’ve batted out of their skins and shown us how good they are and how good they can be. They reduced all kinds of doubts and shut down any naysayers about what they actually can do and will do for India when they are in the right kind of form. That felt strange," he added.
Kohli and Rohit play just ODIs for India, having retired from Tests and T20Is previously. They will next be in action against New Zealand in January.
