Under head coach Gautam Gambhir, India's results have been mixed. While they have struggled in Tests, both home and away, they have been able to produce positive results in white-ball cricket. However, there have been reports emerging about rifts within the dressing room, especially between Gambhir and two senior stars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
It is believed that there are no clashes in the Test and T20I teams, but with Kohli and Rohit playing just the ODIs, the atmosphere in the dressing room has changed drastically.
As a result, there is a meeting expected to take place among the three, either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam - the venues for the second and third ODIs against South Africa, respectively.
“The relations between Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma aren’t as good as they should be, and there could be a meeting regarding the future of the two players. This could take place either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam – venues for the second and third ODIs,” Dainik Jagran quoted a BCCI source as saying.
It is also reported that the relationship between Rohit and chief selector Ajit Agarkar is not that great. The duo did not interact with each other during the entire Australia tour, which marked the return of Kohli and Rohit in the Indian set-up after a seven-month gap.
“During the Australia series, Rohit and Agarkar did not interact at all. Between then and now, even Kohli and Gambhir haven’t spoken much to each other. Besides, the manner in which fans of Kohli and Rohit are attacking Gambhir on social media has made the BCCI upset,” the report added.
Kohli and Rohit were among the runs in the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi, which India won by 17 runs after putting up 349 on the board.
