Returning from a lengthy injury layoff, Cameron Green produced the perfect comeback on debut for Gloucestershire last month, smashing a superb 112 in his first match in over eight months.
But the hundred was followed by four failures, with Green registering scores of 3, 4, 2 & 8 post the successful ton.
However, the 25-year-old recovered from the blip in no time as he smashed his second County hundred in five games against Kent on May 17 (Saturday), racing to an unbeaten 102 at stumps, helping Gloucestershire recover from 139/4 to 309/4.
Funnily enough, Green was ‘sorry’ after smashing the hundred on Saturday as it incidentally ended up coming up against the same opponent against whom he scored his maiden ton, Kent.
“It was amazing. I definitely wanted a good score in front of the fans,” Green said after the ton, reported Sydney Morning Herald
They’ve come out in force the two games I’ve been here, and I’d never really experienced chanting of my name before, so that was awesome to experience. A really cool moment.
“I feel sorry in a way, doing it against the same opposition. But you take them when they come. We played a couple of shots, the crowd got up, and you felt like you were really on top of them.”
Both of Green’s tons in the County Championship have come at No.5, but he is slated to bat at No.3 in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final for Australia against South Africa at Lord’s. Marnus Labuschagne is expected to open the batting, with Sam Konstas, who is in the squad, likely to warm the bench.
Unlike Green, Labuschagne’s 2025 County stint got off to a forgettable start, with the right-hander registering a duck for Glamorgan against Northamptonshire.
