India skipper Shubman Gill walked off the field after facing just three deliveries on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata on November 15 (Saturday). He is believed to have sustained a neck spasm, which he endured after he swept Simon Hamrmer to the fence.
He immediately felt something was wrong and called for the physio. After a quick check, Gill decided to walk back into the pavilion. With India losing wickets in a hurry, will he come out to bat at any point? A release from BCCI says they are monitoring his progress.
"Shubman Gill has a neck spasm and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress," an update from BCCI read.
India have taken a slender lead, but with Gill not certain to bat again, the Proteas would hope to wrap the Indian innings under 200.
