New Zealand will be up against England in a three-match ODI series, which will begin with the first ODI on November 26. This will mark the return of legendary Kane Williamson and all-rounder Nathan Smith to international cricket.
While Williamson has not played internationally since the end of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Smith last played during New Zealand’s tour of Zimbabwe, which preceded the Kiwi home season.
"Kane and Nathan have had to work hard to overcome their respective injuries and illness. We all know what Kane means to New Zealand – to have his skill, experience and leadership back in the group is fantastic. Nathan's still relatively new to his international career, but he's impressed with his all-round skills and ability in the field,” Rob Walter, the New Zealand head coach was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
New Zealand have made it to the last four of all three 50-over ICC events, including the World Cups in 2019 (final) and 2023 (semi-final) and the Champions Trophy in 2025 (final).
Talking about their success, Walter said, "The ODI side has been very successful for a long period of time, as the current ICC ranking of number two suggests. We have an experienced core of players and, as a team, are very clear on how we want to play.”
"This is very much the start of our journey to the ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2027, and I know the group are excited to get going in this series against a quality England side."
