Wish Butt had such a clear thought of mind when he was fixing matches: Vaughan

The former England captain hit back at Salman Butt after the latter took a dig at him for his comments on Kohli and Williamson

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has hit back at Salman Butt after the latter took a dig at Vaughan for his comparisons between Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson.

"If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world. But he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media. So, you all say Virat is the best purely to get a few more clicks and likes, few more numbers following here. Kane Williamson, across formats, is equally the best. I think the way he plays, the calm demeanour, his humbleness, the fact that he is silent about what he does," Vaughan had said.

Butt, however, was not too happy with what Vaughan had said and pointed out that Kohli has 70 international centuries and the former England batsman is always out to create some controversies. "I don't know why someone would make such irrelevant comparisons. As far as Vaughan is concerned, he likes talking about things that have the potential to spark controversies," Butt had commented.

In his scathing reply to Butt, Vaughan rolled back to the time when the former Pakistan batsman got involved with spot-fixing, earning him a lifetime ban.

"I have seen what Salman has said about me ... that's fine and he is allowed his opinion but I wished he had such a clear thought of mind back in 2010 when he was Match fixing," Vaughan tweeted.

Butt's ban was lifted in 2015 by the ICC along with his co-conspirators Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir. Only Amir went on to play for Pakistan again.
