Wives, family members of Indian players can no longer stay for entire tour: Report
The officials feel that the performance of Indian players is being affected by the presence of their family members
Following a review meeting between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials, skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, it has been decided that the wives of Indian players won’t be allowed to travel with the team for the entire tour.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the wives and family members of the players will only be allowed to travel with the team for 14 days if the tour is more than 45 days long. If the duration of the series is shorter, they can only stay for seven days.
The decision has been made after India’s embarrassing Test series defeats against New Zealand and Australia. India were whitewashed at home by the Black Caps and then went on to lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a margin of 1-3.
According to the report, the officials feel that the performance of Indian players is being affected by the presence of their family members. Not only that, Indian players will now only be allowed to travel in the team bus, no matter how big the player is. There have been many instances of players travelling solo.
“Keeping in view the team unity, now all the players will travel by the team bus only. No matter how big a player is, he will not be allowed to travel separately," read the report.
Indian head coach Gambhir’s manager can now no longer stay in the team hotel and has also been asked not to use the team bus.
