UP Warriorz new skipper, Deepti Sharma, feels that positive things are in store for the side in the new Women’s Premier League (WPL) season starting February 14. The statement came ahead of the team’s season opener against the Gujarat Giants, scheduled to take place on February 16th at Vadodara.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity. When I found out about the captaincy, it was a great feeling. I’m feeling positive that good things will happen for the UP Warriorz this year,” Deepti said in a press release from the WPL franchise.
The 27-year-old, who hails from Agra in Uttar Pradesh, will be captaining a WPL side for the first time, but she is not perturbed by the challenge.
“I’ve captained my state team, which has given me experience already. It’s a little different from being part of the team as a senior player. It might be a little challenging, but I love taking on challenges, no matter what level it might be at,” said the all-rounder.
For the first time in WPL history, matches will be held in Lucknow, the home of UP Warriorz and Deepti couldn’t be more excited about it.
“Playing in Lucknow, at the Ekana Stadium, is a very exciting prospect. We are delighted that we will get a chance to play in front of our home fans,” said Deepti, who won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award last season.
