India’s star opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy fixture against Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Express reported on January 14 (Tuesday).
India’s leading run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Jaiswal has already informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and coach Omkar Salvi that he will be available for the match, which will be played in Mumbai from January 23.
“He has informed Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi that he is available for the next round of the Ranji Trophy. The selection committee will pick the Mumbai team in the coming days,” a MCA official said.
Jaiswal, who isn’t part of India’s T20I squad for the England series but is likely to feature in the ODI set-up and the Champions Trophy squad, will join the Mumbai team practice session at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma practiced with the team on Tuesday but is yet to confirm his availability for the red-ball fixture.
Jaiswal was India’s star batter in the tour of Australia, where most of the Indian players struggled. The left-hander slammed 391 runs at an average of 43.44, studded with one century and two fifties.
Since 2024, Jaiswal has amassed 1510 runs @ 52.07. Only Joe Root (1556 @ 55.57) has scored more runs than him in this period.
Mumbai are currently placed third on the Elite Group A points table and will have to win their last two fixtures to confirm their place in the knockouts.
