Ahead of the five-Test series against England, there were concerns surrounding India’s batting given this was a line-up in transition, with two big guns in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma departing abruptly. Many wondered if the young side would be able to cope with the conditions in England and the Dukes Ball.
But reality has actually proven to be fantasy for the Indian side, who have endured their best batting series ever.
As it stands, India are averaging a whopping 43.40 in this series — their best ever in an away series of five matches. And today on day three of The Oval Test, they achieved a 93-year first on the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century.
Jaiswal brought up his second ton of the series, which was India’s 12th century of the series overall. It marked the first ever instance of India having 12 or more centurions in a Test series. Their previous best was 11, which came against West Indies back in 1978/79.

In fact, it’s only the fourth instance of a team having 12+ centurions in a Test series. The last such instance came back in 2003/04, when South Africa racked up 12 tons against West Indies.
