5 factors behind KKR’s domination en route to IPL 2024 final

Missed out on the clash? Don’t worry, we got you covered!

Mitchell Starc’s opening act

Big match bowler? That’s Mitchell Starc for you. Before the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, only twice had Starc picked up three wickets in the powerplay phase.

Against SRH, Starc finished with figures of 3/22, removing Travis Head, Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed. The left-arm pacer’s zip in that spell put SRH’s ambitions in big jeopardy. He has the best strike rate against left-handed batters this IPL - 8.4.

Rahul Tripathi’s first real impact in IPL 2024

At 0/1, Rahul Tripathi had to show his worth in a high-pressure encounter. Playing his fourth game of this IPL, Tripathi showed great range, with 38% of his runs behind the wicket.

The Maharashtrian scored 28 runs on the off-side and 27 on the leg side, showing his game on both ends. All of his boundaries on the night came behind the square region. He was a major reason they got to 159.

Underrated Varun Chakaravarthy

Varun Chakaravarthy is having quite a season to remember.

Since April 29, his figures read: 3/16 vs Delhi Capitals, 2/22 vs Mumbai Indians, 3/30 vs Lucknow Super Giants and 2/17 vs MI. He continued his golden run with another two-wicket haul, ending with figures of 2/26. It was he who removed the dangerous-looking Heinrich Klaasen.

Murphy’s law for SRH

Everything that could go wrong went wrong for SRH.

Two drops, a terrible bowling display in the powerplay, a disastrous batting display, everything that could go wrong for SRH tonight. Their openers, Abhishek (3) and Head (0) got out for a single-digit score.

With the ball in hand, SRH wasted their reviews in under three overs.

Venkatesh Iyer tees off yet again

Venkatesh Iyer has stepped up every time KKR have required him.

Iyer walked out to bat in the fourth over when the score was 44/1. Over the next ten overs, Iyer smashed the living daylight out of the SRH spinners, scoring 20 off nine balls with three boundaries. Remember that he scored 31 off 19 against the pacers, with six boundaries. His unbeaten 51 was his second-highest score this year, smashing at 182.14.
