BCCI announce teams for Challenger Trophy; big names rested

The selectors announced four teams for the Challenger Trophy starting on December 4 at Vijaywada

On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the four teams set to take part in the upcoming Senior Women's Challenger Trophy starting from December 4 at Vijayawada. With 15 players on each side, the four teams are devoid of the big names as Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, and Harmanpreet Kaur have been rested. 

The selectors have allowed plenty of youngsters an opportunity to stake a claim for themselves in the national side, keeping the Women's World Cup in mind. 

Sneh Rana and Taniya Bhatia will lead India A and India B and lock horns in the first match on December 4. Shikha Pandey and Pooja Vastrakar will be at the helm of India C and D, respectively. 

The four teams will compete in a league format, with the top two sides facing off in the summit clash on December 9. 

Squads:

India A: Sneh Rana (Captain), Shivali Shinde, Lakshmi Yadav, Vrinda Dinesh, Jhansi Lakshmi, Yastika Bhatia, Sushree Dibyadarshani, Mehak Kesar, B. Anusha, S.S. Kalal, Ganga.W, D.D. Kasat, Renuka Singh and Simran Dil Bahadur

India B: Taniya Bhatia (Captain), Anju Tomar, Riya Chaudhary, Palak Patel, Shubha Satish, Harleen Deol, Humeira Kazi, Chandu V Ram, Rashi Kanojiya, G. Trisha, Soumya Tiwari, Meghna Singh, Sarala Devi, Saima Thakoor and Ramyashri.

India C: Shikha Pandey (Captain), Muskan Malik, Sweta Verma, Shipra Giri, Tarannum Pathan, Arti Devi, Radha Yadav, C. Prathyusha, Anushka Sharma, Kashvee Gautam, Priyanka Garkhede, R.R. Saha, Dhara Gujjar, Priya Punia and Aishwarya.

India D: Pooja Vastrakar (Captain), Amanjot Kaur, Indrani Roy, K. Prathyoosha, S. Meghana, Divya. G, Ayushi Soni, Kanika Ahuja, Keerthi James, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Sanjula Naik, Monica Patel and Ashwini Kumari, Pooja Raj, Saika Ishaque
