Both teams were surprised with how well the wicket played: Morne Morkel

Over the years, we had grown accustomed to low scoring thrillers at the Chepauk. However, this game was anything but that

Mark Wood came into this with a five-for in the previous one, and he didn't do so badly yesterday as well. He had returns of 3/49 in his four overs. He might have leaked a few more than he we would have liked, but he's been on top of his game when it comes to taking wickets.

Talking about Wood at the post-match press conference, Morne Morkel, Lucknow Super Giants' bowling coach, said, "There's a lot to like about Mark Wood. He's running in, he's touching 150, he's bowling the aggressive lengths, and he's a strike bowler for us. For me, it is important to sit with him and work out what to expect from surfaces. It's only his 3rd IPL game, so he's still finding his feet in the subcontinent. Especially in the IPL, where the margins are quite small and there are a lot of quality players.

It's just talking about the different periods he's possibly going to bowl in, making sure he's clear with his plans. One thing about him is that he's won the World Cup, he's got a lot of experience, he's played for England for many years, so he knows the recipe for success. My advice to him would be to not overthink it now. He's playing in the IPL for a reason. He's got pace, let's make as much use of it as possible."

Over the years, we had grown accustomed to low scoring thrillers at the Chepauk. However, this game was anything but that. There was a bit of movement, a lot of carry, and batters were able to score at will. In fact, the former South African International also felt surprised seeing Chepauk behave like this.

"Both teams were surprised with how well the wicket played. It's sort of a known blueprint that Chennai really enjoys bowling a lot of spin. As a visiting team, you expect to face those sort of conditions. The ball is going to slow up a little bit and offer spin. I was pleasantly surprised to see the ball go over the keeper's head."
