Delhi Capitals (DC) coach Ricky Ponting believes that captaincy will make Rishabh Pant a better player. Pant was handed the captaincy on Tuesday (March 30) after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out for the season due to the shoulder injury he suffered during the One-Day International (ODI) series against England recently.
"Unfortunate that Shreyas will miss the tournament, but looking forward to seeing @RishabhPant17 grab his opportunity. It's well deserved for his recent performances and he's coming in with a lot of confidence. I'm convinced captaincy will make him an even better player," Ponting tweeted.

Pant has been in excellent form of late. From scoring series-winning 97 and 89 not out in Australia to scoring a ton in the fourth Test against England in Ahmedabad and grabbing the opportunities handed to him in the ODI series against England, Pant has been amongst the most consistent performers for India.
Even though Pant has led his domestic side Delhi in the past, he is set to make his debut as captain of an IPL team in 2021.
