Virat Kohli has broken Mohammad Azharuddin's record to become the most successful catcher in Indian ODI cricket history. He achieved this feat during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener against Bangladesh in Dubai. Kohli first caught Najmul Hossain Shanto at cover point and then took the crucial wicket of Jaker Ali at long-on to equal the record of the former India captain.
Kohli and Azhar have taken 156 catches for India. Azhar played 334 ODIs for India, while Kohli achieved this feat two matches shy of 300 matches. Only five Indian players have taken over 100 catches in ODIs.
Virat Kohli 156*
Mohammad Azharuddin 156
Sachin Tendulkar 140
Rahul Dravid 124
Suresh Raina 102
Among active cricketers, Rohit Sharma is next in line with 96 catches.
Kohli is also India's second-highest run-getter after Sachin Tendulkar. He is also on the cusp of becoming only the third cricketer in the world to put up 14,000 runs in the 50-over format.
