There is a great chance that Deepak Chahar will be out of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2023 campaign after he picked up a hamstring injury during the clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 8, 2023.
Chahar’s journey with CSK in the last couple of years has been fraught with uncertainties as Chahar, for whom CSK had bid 14 Crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction, missed the entirety of IPL 2022 with a back injury after missing a majority of his Indian team journey following a right quadriceps injury.
"Chahar will undergo scans to identify the extent of the injury once the team returns to Chennai," the franchise said in a statement on Sunday.
Chahar bowled five balls in his opening over against Mumbai Indians last night when he suffered the injury and after bowling the final ball with pain, he left the field and didn’t take any further part in the game.
But that’s not the only injury concern CSK now have to deal with. The MS Dhoni-led franchise missed the services of Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali for the Mumbai encounter. While Ali, who was down with food poisoning, is expected to return for the next game against Rajasthan Royals on April 12, Stokes’ situation may keep him out of the squad for the next week. He is expected to return in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 17.
"Stokes played Chennai Super Kings' first two matches of IPL 2023 before injuring his toe during training ahead of the third game, which the Super Kings won by seven wickets. The Chennai Super Kings medical staff are closely monitoring both the players and will provide all support necessary for their recovery."
