DRAMA: Yashasvi Jaiswal FUMES As Gill Does A 'Kohli' To Deny Him Double Century
Jaiswal went through all five stages of grief at once after realizing he had missed out on an easy double ton
It was roughly 10 months ago that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy turned on its head with the run-out of Yashasvi Jaiswal at the MCG in the Boxing Day Test match. Jaiswal was batting like a dream on 82, with a ton looking inevitable, and India were placed at 153/2 in response to Australia’s 474, looking like they would go big and get close to parity.
However, it was at this point that a massive mix-up took place between Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, with the former getting run-out after the latter said no for a quick single. Jaiswal went back to the pavilion, and India were never the same after that in the 24/25 BGT.
Cut to October 2025, Jaiswal has astonishingly endured a similar fate with a couple of tweaks: the non-striker being Shubman Gill instead of Kohli, and with a double hundred there for the taking instead of just a ton.
Resuming day two on 173*, on a rather flat Delhi surface, a double-century for Jaiswal looked like a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’, but a massive mix-up occurred on the very second over of day two.
The left-hander drove a full delivery from Jayden Seales to mid-off, and then put on his skates and took off for a quick single, just like he did at the MCG ten months back. However, to his utter horror, the non-striker Gill called no and turned his back.
Jaiswal was unable to stop quickly because of momentum, and even though he eventually turned around and scrambled as quickly as he could to get back, it was a lost cause as the wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach broke the stumps after a sharp throw from Tagenarine Chanderpaul.
Realising what had just happened, Jaiswal stood there in disbelief, very well knowing that he’d just thrown away a golden opportunity to get a double ton. He went through all five stages of grief at once, and looked at his partner Gill, not knowing what to say.
Had Jaiswal gotten to his double ton, he would have equalled Virender Sehwag for the most double-hundreds by an Indian opener at home (3), except in 64 fewer innings.
