Players to watch out for
Sikandar Raza: The Zimbabwe captain was on fire in the first T20I against India, where he walked away as the player of the match for his figures of 3/25, which handed his side a famous 13-run victory. While he may not have chipped in with the bat in the game, we could very well see him come to the party in this game. In 2024, he has slammed 190 runs at a strike rate of 128.27 and has also picked up eight wickets at an economy rate of under seven. Safe to say, his all-round skills will be key in ensuring that Zimbabwe double their lead.
Ravi Bishnoi: The leg-spinner put the brakes on the Zimbabwe batters with an epic spell of 4/13 in the first T20I, which included a couple of maidens as well. Bishnoi missed the bus to the T20 World Cup 2024, but he has been in top form whenever he has played for India. Since 2023, he has picked up 24 wickets at 18.41 for India at an economy rate of 7.49. Only Kuldeep Yadav (25) and Arshdeep Singh (46) have picked up more wickets for Men in Blue in this period.
Washington Sundar: With Ravindra Jadeja gone from T20Is, it gives an opportunity for Sundar to stake a claim for a place in the XI in the long run. He did his chances no harm, having finished with 2/11 and with the bat, he slammed 27 down the order and gave India hope of overcoming Zimbabwe in the first game in Harare. If he can keep this up, he could very well be in the reckoning for years to come.
Key Battles
Shubman Gill vs off-spin
India skipper Shubman Gill was outfoxed by Raza in the first T20I, and it is a battle that could once again do the job for Zimbabwe once again. Zimbabwe also have youngster Brian Bennett too who could be brought on early, as he was on July 6 (Saturday). Gill has been dismissed four times in T20Is by off-spin, at an abysmal average of 7.5. However, he has a strike rate of 157.5 against them, which is a sign that it could potentially backfire for Zimbabwe. Which way will the pendulum swing on July 7 (Sunday)?
