Fit-again Matt Henry returns for Australia ODIs

Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson (back) and Adam Milne (achilles) weren't considered due to injury

New Zealand pacer Matt Henry has fully recovered from a rib injury and is part of the 15-member squad for the upcoming Chappell-Hadlee ODI series against Australia. All three ODIs will be played at Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns on September 6, 8 and 11.

The right-arm seamer, who has claimed 110 wickets in 60 ODIs at an average of 25.22, hasn't played any international cricket since July 2022 and will come in place of legspinner Ish Sodhi. Ben Sears, who was part of the New Zealand squad for the West Indies ODIs, has managed to retain his spot.

Apart from these two, the Black Caps also have Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee in their pace department, while Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell are the fast-bowling allrounders. Skipper Kane Williamson, who missed the last two ODIs against West Indies due to an injury, is also back in the squad.

"It's a great rivalry we have with Australia; it's always a huge occasion for the fans, and the team really look forward to it," said Williamson said.

"You grow up watching the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series and remembering the great battles, so to be part of another chapter is pretty special. We know how tough Australia are to beat in their own conditions and we're looking forward to the challenge."

Meanwhile, head coach Gary Stead added: "The fact we're having to leave out players of the caliber of Ish, Henry, and Will shows the increased depth we currently have at our disposal. Glenn (Phillips) is a versatile player who can cover most places in the batting order for us - as well as providing a bowling option if needed.

"It's great to welcome back Matt. He's been one of our front line one-day bowlers for the past few years and his ICC ODI bowling ranking of six is testament to that. The inclusion of Ben Sears is a nod to the future, and we also think his pace and bounce could be a good option in Australian conditions."

Kyle Jamieson (back) and Adam Milne (achilles) weren't considered due to injury. Meanwhile, Henry Nicholls and Will Young too couldn't find a place in the squad.

This series was originally scheduled to be held in January but had to be postponed due to quarantine restrictions.

Squad: Kane Williamson (C), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham (WK), Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ben Sears, Tim Southee.
