RCB’s poor powerplay
44/2, where the opposition scored 72/0 in the same phase on the same pitch, is a sign that the RCB's powerplay batting put their side at a big disadvantage. No RCB batter has hit a fifty inside the powerplay since 2022, which shows that this is now a systemic problem for the Bengaluru side.
Bumrah’s five-wicket haul
Jasprit Bumrah picked his second-ever five-wicket haul in the IPL, including those of Virat Kohli, Faf Du Plessis, and Mahipal Lomror. In the process, he gave just 21 runs in his four-over quota. Du Plessis and Lomror’s wickets came off consecutive deliveries in the 17th over as MI kept RCB to under 200.
DK’s late blitzkrieg
Dinesh Karthik scored 53 off just 23 deliveries, hitting four sixes and five fours in the process. He came in early to bat during the 13th over and batted till the end, scoring 70% of his runs behind the wickets and helping RCB set a 197-run target.
The Kishan-SKY show
72 runs in the batting powerplay more or less took the game away from RCB, and Ishan Kishan was the one doing the damage. He opened up after the first three overs and absolutely smacked everything that came his way and finished with 69 off just 34 balls.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav scored his fastest IPL fifty, which came off just 17 balls, and his 52 off 19 announced his return in the most SKY fashion possible.
RCB’s woeful bowling
The beehive of both pace attacks above highlights the inaccuracy and control issues with RCB’s pace bowling. Their speedsters kept bowling full tosses and half trackers that were smacked for big shots by the likes of Kishan, SKY, Rohit, and Pandya. The result was 199 chased down in just 15.3 overs, as they also missed a quality spinner today.
