Wiaan Mulder, bowling all-rounder of the South African men’s Test team, who got injured on Day 2 of the Durban Test against Sri Lanka on November 28 (Thursday), was eventually ruled out of not just the game but the remaining second match of the two-match series as well on Friday.
“The 26-year-old sustained the injury after being struck on the lower hand while batting during South Africa’s first innings on day two of the first Test in Durban. Subsequent x-rays revealed the extent of the injury,” a press release by Cricket South Africa read.
Matthew Breetzke, a batter of the Warriors team in the South African domestic set-up has been called on as the Mulder’s replacement for the second Test scheduled at the George’s Park in Gqeberha from December 5 to 9.
As for the first Test in Durban, after getting all-out for 191 in their first innings, Protea on the back of Marco Jansien’s fiery spell of 7/13, bowled the Lankans out for 42, taking a huge lead of 149 runs. In their second innings, they ended Day 2 at 132/3.
