GT fined for maintaining slow over-rate against PBKS

Skipper Hardik Pandya will have to shell out INR 12 lakh as it was his side's first over-rate-related offence this season

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya has been fined as his team maintained a slow over-rate during their victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali on Thursday (April 13). Since this was their first over-rate-related offence, the skipper will be fined INR 12 lakh.

The Titans went on to win by six wickets and have accumulated six points from four matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, as a result. The last few days has seen Faf du Plessis and Sanju Samson too being fined for the same.

Any further over-rate offences could lead to the entire team being fined 25% of their match fee or INR 6 lakh, whichever is lesser.

However, for the third offence, the captain of the bowling side will be fined INR 30 lakh and will also be banned for a match. The rest of the side will consequently be fined 60% of their match fee or INR 12 lakh, whichever is lesser.

Chasing 154, GT got to their target with just one ball to spare. Mohit Sharma was the star for them, as he finished with figures of 2 for 18 in his first-ever game for the franchise. They went into this match at the back of a demoralising defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), against whom they conceded five sixes in the final over to concede the game.

The Titans next take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday (April 16) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
