Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to India's squad as a back-up pacer ahead of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. The reinforcement comes in as pacers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh have sustained injuries.
Kamboj had a good outing in England recently, when he toured the country with India A, picking up five wickets in three innings and also slamming a half-century batting down the order.
Akash Deep, who picked up 10 wickets in India's historic win at Edgbaston, could be out of contention for a place in Manchester due to an injury. At Lord's, he was seen in pain holding his hip, after which skipper Shubman Gill turned to Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. He did return to the field after that but did not bowl. But he came in as a nightwatchman and lasted 11 deliveries.
Arshdeep, on the other hand, has been nursing a finger injury, with him suffering an untimely cut on his finger.
The injuries have come at an unfortunate time for India as they look to manage Bumrah's workload. India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that Bumrah could play the fourth Test, as India look to level the series after an agonising 22-run defeat at Lord's.
The fourth Test in Manchester will begin on July 23 (Wednesday) onwards.
