India have made a massive comeback in Day 2 in the Oval Test as they managed to not give England a big lead. Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna led the bowling attack from the front, taking four wickets each, allowing England only a lead of 23 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal has laid a good foundation in the second innings, scoring his fourth 50+ score of the series ending the day with India having a 52 run lead.
With a jam-packed day three coming up, here are a few thing we can expect on Day 3 of the Oval Test.
The Oval has been the most testing wicket in this Test series so far. A total of 16 wickets fell on Day 2. Entering Day 3, The Oval is statistically the best venue for bowlers on Day 3 as the bowling SR of 34.2 is the best at a venue across the world. Expect Team India batters to be tested by the England pacers on Day 3.
Shubman Gill has managed to have a good match as a captain so far. His first innings did not go well as he got out for 21 runs. Coming to the third innings of a Test, he has scored 485 runs in seven innings at an average of 69.3 against England. It is his best against them across the four innings. He smashed two centuries in this series, batting in the third innings of the Test in Birmingham and Manchester. With India having a 52-run lead, Gill would want to step up and score a massive score, giving England a big target to chase in the 4th innings.
England bowlers have had a bittersweet Test match so far at the Oval against India. Gus Atkinson is the only bowler who has looked good. Josh Tongue has managed to take wickets but has been erratic with his lines. Jamie Overton has been completely off colour so far in this Test match. Historically, England bowlers have managed to be at their best on Day 3 as they have averaged 29 and taken 100+ wickets on the third day since 2024. Will these new bowlers be able to step and deliver like the other England bowlers is something that needs to be seen on Saturday.
