India have started well in the Birmingham Test as they have done well with the bat, posting 310 at the end of Day 1.
Like in Leeds, Yashasvi Jaiswal once again delivered, scoring an excellent 87, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century. Karun Nair and Rishabh Pant failed to convert their starts as they got out cheaply. Shubman Gill led from the front once again as the Indian captain became the second Indian safter Virat Kohli to smash a century in Birmingham.
With an exciting Day 2 ahead, here are a few possible things that we can expect.
Spinners could struggle on Day 2
Shoaib Bashir had a decent Day 1 as the off-spinner conceded only 65 runs and dismissed a key batter in Pant. Looking ahead to Day 2, he might not have a good day as the record for spinners on Day 2 has been horrible since 2021, as only four wickets have fallen for spinners while they have averaged 62.3, which is the worst at any venue in England. Hence against a tiring England bowling attack, India could end up posting close to 450, if not more.
However, this might be bad news for India as they have two spinners in their bowling lineup in Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
Mohammed Siraj's chance to step up
Mohammed Siraj will have a massive responsibility on Day 2 as the express pacer must lead the bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. In his career so far, Siraj's best bowling has been on Day 2 as he taken 30 wickets at an average of 27.3, which is the most wickets and best average for him in a day. He could turn out to be the best bowler on the day.
Joe Root loves batting in the second innings of a Test
Joe Root will be a massive factor on Day 2 as the legendary Englishman has scored the most runs in the second innings of a Test since 2021, with 1880 runs. He has averaged 62.67, which is his best across the four innings of a Test match. He has smashed more centuries than fifties with six hundreds and five half centuries. Expect a big score from Root by the end of Day 2.
Weather Report for Day 2
The weather in Birmingham is expected to the same like Day 1 as there is going to be bright sunshine all through the day. With the sun peaking throughout the day, expect batters to have a great run-scoring day, just like day one.
