Kuldeep Yadav’s non-selection has been a major talking point ever since the Edgbaston Test started. However, Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel assured that the left-arm wrist spinner is knocking on the doors for selection and the team management is just looking to keep him prepared for when his chance arrives.
“Kuldeep is in every single conversation for us, from a selection perspective,” Morkel said on the sidelines of the second Test match.
“He’s definitely knocking on the door, and our job is to keep him ready, and prepared when he gets a chance to go out there and play.”
Morkel also praised Akash Deep and said that he has impressed despite not playing a lot of red ball coming into this series. As a result, the team has looked to increase his workload gradually.
“Look at the speeds, the thing that I like about him, is that he hasn’t played a lot of red-ball cricket. He bowled very little pre-Test series…We were increasing his load, and that’s what we have been doing with him till now,” the former South Africa pacer added.
Additionally, the Indian bowling coach acknowledged that execution is the key in the flat conditions in England, and said that the bowlers are getting better with every spell they bowl in the series.
“We knew that we were going to get these conditions, more flatter wickets, which gives a chance for England to chase,” Morkel added.
“We knew we had to bowl those tough overs and longer spells. That’s where execution comes into play, and we have to apply pressure from both ends. If we look at the difference between the two Tests, we have improved, and improved between spells.”
