Ishan Kishan, who is currently in England with a contract for the County side Nottinghamshire, is most likely to replace an injured Rishabh Pant in the Indian squad for the ongoing five-match Test series against England.
Pant, who was injured during the third Test at Lord’s, made a comeback in the fourth Test at Old Trafford. However, while batting, he got hit directly on the toe by a Chris Woakes full ball.
Although he got a slight inside edge and was not given out, the batter did not play afterwards. He was subsequently ruled out with a fractured toe for at least six weeks.
Though there has been no official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), media reports suggest that Kishan, who has an average of 78, the highest for an Indian batter so far, will most likely be the replacement.
Kishan played the last of his two matches in 2023 on the tour of the West Indies. The 27-year-old has hit two fifties in his first two first-class matches for Nottinghamshire, but he missed the third match because of an injury, according to the Indian Express.
