India's Bowling Woes Might Cost Morne Morkel His Job: Reports

The BCCI is also unhappy that the bowling coach has not groomed any pacer yet

India's bowling, barring a couple of instances in the England Tests, have been underwhelming. Mohammed Siraj is yet to hit his best, Jasprit Bumrah has faded, Shardul Thakur has been poor, and the introduction of Anshul Kamboj in Manchester proved to be a failure.

That could see former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel lose his post as India's bowling coach. The stakeholders are also unhappy that Morkel has not groomed any bowlers since he took over the job.

Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate were hand-picked by Gautam Gambhir when he took over the job a year ago, and the duo could potentially be out of a job soon, according to a report on The Telegraph.

The report further adds that the drastic changes are unlikely to take place before the Asia Cup, slated to be played in September in the UAE. However, head coach Gambhir's job is safe at the moment, as the BCCI "doesn't want a change at the top, especially in a team which is in transition."

Moreover, keeping world-class wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav out of the XI in all four Tests so far, too, has played a role.

“The coaches always talk of balance, but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences,” a BCCI source told The Telegraph.

The report further states that the BCCI are keeping an eye on selectors Ajit Agarkar and Shiv Sundar Das, who have not been seeing eye to eye on various issues, including selection. The exclusion of Kuldeep from all the games remains a major issue.

England currently have a 2-1 lead in the five-match series against India. The final Test will be played at The Oval, starting July 31 (Thursday). After this, India's next Test assignment is at home against the West Indies in October, by which time there could be several backroom tweaks.
