England captain Eoin Morgan has hinted that he could participate in the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, where he would return to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). There were initial reports that all England players will be available for the tournament, which will resume from September 19 in the UAE.
England and Bangladesh were scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and as many T20 Internationals (T20I) in the September-October window, but ECB and BCB mutually agreed to postpone the series to March 2023.
Initially, the Managing Director of the England team Ashley Giles had made it clear that the players will not be released for the rescheduled IPL, but now, it is being seen as a good preparation for the T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and Oman.
Morgan however added that is a personal choice. It's a completely individual decision," Morgan said, according to ESPNCricinfo.
"I think it was a win-win either way. If we went to Bangladesh we'd play in conditions that are foreign to us. If some guys go to the IPL, they'll play in similar conditions [to the World Cup] or for guys that need a rest, they take a rest."
"We've a lot of cricket to play between now and then. We've planned on the tour going ahead - that's been part of our planning for a long time now - but equally, given the nature in which we now compete and live our lives, it's not a bad thing for guys to either take time off or go to the IPL if they feel refreshed and have enough energy," the England captain added.
Mustafizur, Shakib seek NOC from BCB
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who are part of the KKR and Rajasthan Royals (RR) squads respectively hope to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) allowing them to participate in the rescheduled IPL.
”Yes, if they apply and if we don’t have any international commitment they can go and take part in IPL. We are yet to receive any official letter from them in this regard and if we get that, board will take a decision,” BCB Chairman Akram Khan stated.
