In a crucial match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel has been ruled out of the game as he is down with the flu. As a result, Faf du Plessis will lead the team in his absence. Du Plessis becomes the 10th overseas player to captain multiple teams in the IPL.
At 40 years and 312 days, du Plessis is the fourth-oldest player to lead in the IPL, after MS Dhoni, Shane Warne, and Adam Gilchrist.
"Really sick in the last two days. We'll miss him today," du Plessis said on Axar at the toss.
"Axar is not there, Axar is two players and it's difficult to replace him. We'll see how it goes," he added.
Fast bowling all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh, Madhav Tiwari, comes in for Axar.

DC need to win to stay in contention for a place in the playoffs, while a loss would end his campaign. The Capitals started off the campaign well, winning five of their first six matches, and since then, have won just one of their six games.
MI, on the other hand, have won six of their last seven matches after a sedate start and find themselves in pole position to make it to the next round. After this game, both teams will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their final league encounter.
DC won the toss against MI, and they have decided to bowl first.
