With their impressive seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in Ahmedabad on April 19 (Saturday), Gujarat Titans (GT) went top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 table, with 10 points from seven matches.
GT chased down 204 off the final over of the match, but skipper Shubman Gill believes that they would have been chasing more had the bowlers not pulled things back.
"At one point, it looked like the total was going to be 220-230. The way we pulled back, credit to the bowlers. Even in the first game, chasing around 245, we were right in the game, lost by just 10 runs. We've been chasing well, we've been defending well," Gill said at the post-match presentation.
Gill's counterpart Axar Patel rued that his side were about 10-15 runs short. "We were 10-15 runs short. When we tried to accelerate, we kept losing wickets. We couldn't finish the way we wanted. We did bowl decently. Had we managed to create few more chances, things could have been closer. It was a matter of a couple of hits. We won't think much about this loss," Axar said.
Despite this loss, DC are well-positioned on the IPL 2025 points table. They will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) next on April 22 (Tuesday). GT, on the other hand, take on defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21 (Monday).
