Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill becomes the sixth Indian player to hit 100 sixes as an opener in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He achieved this feat against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on April 28 (Monday).
Only five other opening batters have hit more sixes then him: KL Rahul (174), Virat Kohli (171), Shikhar Dhawan (143), Rohit Sharma (135), Virender Sehwag (104) are the ones ahead of Gill, who currently has 101 sixes at the top of the order.
Gill has been in excellent form this season, with four fifties in nine innings so far, including a superb 90 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous game.
He was eventually dismissed for 84 off 50 after putting up 93 for the first wicket with Sai Sudharsan and then following that up with a 74-run partnership with Jos Buttler for the second wicket.
Among those pairs who have put up at least 500 runs for the first wicket, the Gill-Sai Sudharsan stand's average of 72.41 is the highest. Moreover, Gill now has 23 fifties since he was moved as an opener in 2018, the most after Virat Kohli (25), David Warner (26), Faf du Plessis (28) and KL Rahul (34).
Gill-led GT are well-placed to make the playoffs this season. A win in this game will take them to the top of the table.
