IPL 2025: Starc, Hazlewood & Others Leave India, Will Reach Home On May 11: Reports
Even if IPL 2025 restarts now, it will not have several marquee names playing in the tournament
In its official release yesterday, the BCCI said that the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended only for a week, with the board claiming that ‘updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course’.
The BCCI’s announcement thus prompted speculation that there was a slim chance that the tournament might restart in a different country — England or South Africa — inside the next two weeks, meaning there wouldn’t be a necessity to find a window in August or September to complete the competition.
It is worth noting that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have already told the BCCI that they are open to helping the board host the remainder of the IPL 2025 games.
However, even if the tournament restarts in a couple of weeks, it will not have any marquee Australian players playing as the Sydney Morning Herald have confirmed that the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and others have already made plans to fly back home.
“The likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head, all signed to play in the IPL, have been able to organise flights back to Australia after air raid warnings near Dharamshala in the country’s north prompted the postponement of the world’s richest T20 tournament,” a report in the publication read.
It is believed that the vast majority of Australian players who took part in the IPL will return home on Sunday (May 11).
This particular development might play a part in BCCI’s decision-making as the board would ideally want all the marquee names to partake in the latter stages of the tournament. Starc (DC), Hazlewood (RCB) and Marcus Stoinis (PBKS) all play for franchises who are primed to not just make it to the playoffs, but potentially go even deeper in the tournament.
