Virat Kohli Retired from T20Is Early, Should Have Played Until 2026: CSK Legend

The former India captain called time on his T20I career after the T20 World Cup 2024

Virat Kohli called time on his T20 International (T20I) career after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Along with Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja too stepped away from the format.

Kohli, 36, is still on top of his game and is just eight runs shy of another 400-plus Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Moreover, he has already hit five fifties in nine innings this season, striking at 144.11.

As a result, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Suresh Raina believes Kohli retired from T20Is early and should have continued to play until 2026, the year India co-hosts the T20 World Cup.

"I still think that Virat Kohli retired early from T20I cricket. He could have played until 2026, based on the rhythm with which he is playing right now, and the rhythm during the 2025 Champions Trophy as well. The way he has maintained his fitness, he looks like he is at his peak still," Raina said on Star Sports.

Kohli is the most successful batter in the IPL with 8,396 runs, which includes 68 50-plus scores. Not just that, he is just one of three batters in the world who have scored over 4,000 runs in T20Is.
