Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were thrashed to yet another loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, this time around by the Gujarat Titans (GT), who beat them by seven wickets, chasing the target of 153 with 20 balls to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 6 (Sunday).
Here are the top four talking points from match 19 between GT and SRH in IPL 2025.
Shubman Gill announced at the toss that Washington Sundar would make his debut for the Gujarat Titans in their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. What a debut it turned out to be!
The left-handed batter, who is known more for his right-arm off-spin, actually turned the game around with the bat for the Titans, making his selection pay off for the management.
When the Titans were in trouble at 16/2, it was Sundar, who took the attack to the opposition, taking all sorts of innovative measures like hitting scoops and Nataraja shots.
He made 29-ball 49 and took all the pressure off his skipper Gill, adding 90 off 56 balls with him for the fourth wicket and nearly finishing the match as his team was chasing a modest target of 153.
Although he was playing for the opposition Gujarat Titans, Mohammed Siraj was at his home in Hyderabad, and he made sure that the visit was a memorable one. Going through one of the best patches in his IPL bowling career, Miyan Bhai, as he is popularly known in Hyderabad, took 4/17 and decimated the home team-Sunrisers Hyderabad. This was the 31-year-old’s best bowling figures ever recorded in an IPL match.
If Sundar set the platform for the Titans, Sherfane Rutherford, who came in as an impact substitute in place of Ishant Sharma, made sure that it was put to the best possible use, going for the win and completing it as early as possible. The West Indian slammed an unbeaten 35 off just 16 balls, hitting six fours and a magnificent six on the way.
The batting, touted to be the best in the business, the one everyone thought would give the IPL its first-ever 300-plus score, seems to have buried itself under the expectations. After scoring 286 in their opening match of the season, the SRH batters have just not been able to get going, once again failing to make an impression.
This was the fourth game in a row that SRH’s top names - Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy - failed miserably. The five had a combined total of 101 runs in this game, which came in 88 balls.
