NEWSSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and England opening batsman Jason Roy will miss at least two Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 fixtures. Roy, who landed in India earlier today (April 10) will have to serve a seven-day quarantine, which will come to an and on April 16.
SRH play a couple of games during this period - starting off with a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 11 and then against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 14. He could be eligible to play in his team's third game against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 17.
Had Roy taken a bubble to bubble transfer from the India vs England series, he would not have had to serve a mandatory quarantine according to BCCI's SOPs. Roy replaced Mitchell Marsh in the SRH squad after the all-rounder complained of bubble fatigue. Roy has previously represented Gujarat Lions (2017) and Delhi Capitals (2018). He opted out of last year's competition due to personal reasons.
Roy has played just eight matches in the IPL and has scored 179 runs at a strike-rate of 133.58, which includes a fifty as well. He will join his England opening partner Jonny Bairstow at SRH, but whether he will get a chance to open with him is to be seen, especially with David Warner too around.
In the recently-concluded T20 International (T20I) series against India, Roy finished with 144 runs from five matches at a strike-rate in excess of 132. He was in decent form in the One-Day International (ODI) series that followed, scoring 115 at 38.33, which included a fifty as well.
