India defeated England in the third and final ODI to win the series 2-1, and their England tour on a high after winning the T20I series earlier 3-2.
Batting first after winning the toss for the first time on this tour, India scored a massive 318/5 in their 50 overs. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was in supreme touch with the bat, and scored an 82-ball century after India were stuck at 87/2 in 20 overs.
Jemimah Rodrigues also played her part, and injected a lot of momentum into the Indian innings with a 50 in her 50th ODI. Richa Ghosh carried that momentum even more forward with a swashbuckling cameo at the end to help India reach 318.
Only Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean managed to curtail the Indian batters, as the other three bowlers — Lauren Bel, Lauren Filer and Linsey Smith — were taken to the cleaners by the Indian middle-order of Ghosh, Harmanpreet and Rodrigues.
In the chase, England were rocked early by the sensational Kranti Goud, who turned out to be the find of the series. While England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (who missed out on what could have been a remarkable hundred and was dismissed on 98) and Emma Lamb (who also scored a half-century) resurrected the chase from there with a splendid century partnership.
However, the chase proved to be too much at the end despite useful contributions from Sophia Dunkley and Alice David-Richardson.
Goud was spectacular at the death as well, as she bowled to her field and nailed her yorkers, picking up six wickets for 52 runs in her 10 overs — the best ever for an Indian bowler against England.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was adjudged the Player of the series and match for her brilliant match and series-winning century, as she equalled Mithali Raj’s record for second-most ODI centuries for India in the format.
