Sri Lanka announced their playing 11 for the second Test against England on Wednesday (August 28). The match will be played at the iconic Lord’s from tomorrow. Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Kumara have been drafted in the Lankan side in place of Kusal Mendis and Vishwa Fernando respectively.
Nissanka, who has played nine Tests and scored 537 runs at an average of 38.35, did not feature in the first game at Old Trafford, in which Sri Lanka lost a thriller by five wickets. Nissanka last played a Test against Australia in July 2022. He scored six runs in that game. Kusal, whom Nissanka is replacing, made 24 and 0 in the two innings of the Manchester Test.
Kumara, always prone to injury, last featured in a Test against Bangladesh in March 2024. He took six wickets in that game and helped his side to a victory. The pacer has played 28 Tests and taken 85 wickets at an average of 36.87 with one five-wicket haul to his name. Kumara replaced Vishwa Fernando, who could only get two wickets in the first Test.
Earlier, England announced their squad for the Lord’s Test on Tuesday. Ollie Stone replaced injured Mark Wood as the only change in the winning playing 11. England lead the three-match series 1-0.
