The Indian men continued their dominance in the three T20I series against Bangladesh, winning the last game with a huge margin of 133 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, India went after the leather from the first ball itself. Opener Sanju Samson led the charge with India’s second-quickest T20I century, scoring 111 in just 47 deliveries. Along with him, skipper Suryakumar Yadav blitzed 75 runs in just 35 deliveries.
India ended up with the highest total ever scored by a Test nation in T20I match, posting 297/6 in their full quota of overs. Speaking post-match after winning the series 3-0, skipper Suryakumar was extremely impressed with his side and stressed that regardless of the individual score, players have to play for the team.
“I think we've achieved a lot as a team. Had said that we wanted to have selfless cricketers and be a selfless team, who can enjoy each others' performances. That camaraderie is coming off,” the right-handed batter said.
“Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] bhai said the same thing before the series that no one is bigger than the team, no matter you are on 49 or 99, you have to hit the ball out of the field. That's what Sanju did today.
“We have to be flexible when it comes to batting and bowling. Bowlers who can have to chip in. Batters have to be flexible and their performances were commendable,” Suryakumar remarked.
Meanwhile, Samson thanked the leadership for continuing to support him despite his lean run in the first two games of the series.
“The leadership tells me they back me no matter what, not just in words but in actions also, ” the wicketkeeper batter from Kerala said.
“Last series I got two ducks and went back to Kerala thinking what will happen, but I'm here. My mentor tells me 'you have to hit five sixes in an over, I'm waiting for that,' I was chasing it and it happened today.”
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto rued the fact that his bowlers couldn’t execute their plans, and the team didn’t perform up to the standards.
“We didn't play our best cricket. We didn't execute our plans as a batting unit. Couple of overs we bowled well in some matches but today we didn't bowl well,” Shanto said.
“We need to believe in ourselves that we can compete against any team. We need to change our home wickets and players need to take responsibilities.”
