Just two days after the conclusion of the India-England T20I series, Mumbai have named Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube in their strong 18-member squad for the quarterfinal against Haryana. The record 42-time champions will be eyeing that 43rd title despite getting to the quarterfinal stage in the most unconvincing manner.
The duo have already represented the state in one Ranji Trophy game apiece, with Dube playing a part in Mumbai’s horror outing against Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Suryakumar was part of the setup in their clash against Maharashtra before the break.
Suryakumar’s form has been quite a concern, with scores of 2, 0, 14, 12 and 0 in his last five international matches against England. If you extend that to domestic cricket, the right-hander has scores of 0, 0 and 18 in the three Vijay Hazare Trophy games. The 34-year-old would want to use this opportunity to fine-tune his game and find his feet ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
However, Mumbai will face a strong challenge, considering how Haryana has played cricket this season and the strong ‘away’ challenge that they will face in Lahli.
Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester D’Souza, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar, Harsh Tanna.
