Unwanted record for captain Shubman Gill as Punjab sink to 46-year low
It’s Punjab’s second-lowest total ever in Ranji Trophy history and their lowest in 46 years
It’s been a horror return to the Ranji Trophy for India’s newly-appointed ODI vice-captain Shubman Gill.
First, opening the batting, Gill endured yet another failure in red-ball cricket, departing for just 4 runs. Now, Punjab have sunk to a 46-year low under his captaincy after getting bowled out for 55.
It’s Punjab’s second-lowest total ever in Ranji Trophy history and lowest in 46 years.

After being asked to bat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Punjab lost Gill in the fourth over with the score reading 11. 11/1 soon became 28/6 as Karnataka pacers Vasuki Koushik and Abhilash Shetty wreaked havoc.
Ramandeep Singh (16) and Mayank Markande (12) showed some fight but their 18-run stand was unable to save Punjab from embarrassment as they got bowled out for 55.
The 55 all-out is also the lowest total in this season of the Ranji Trophy across both Elite and Plate groups.
