Shubman Gill’s lean run continues as he falls for 4 against Karnataka | Karnataka vs Punjab
Across his last 11 red-ball innings, the right-hander now averages 25.64, crossing the 50-run mark just once
Shubman Gill’s hopes of finding form in Ranji Trophy ahead of the ODIs against England were dashed quickly as the right-hander departed for 4 in Punjab’s clash against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After Karnataka won the toss and opted to bowl, Gill, Punjab’s captain, opened the batting alongside Prabhsimran Singh. However, he could only last eight balls, nicking one off left-arm pacer Abhilash Shetty to the wicketkeeper KL Shrijith.
Gill’s wicket was the biggest talking point of a horror start for Punjab, who got reduced to 19/4 after 10 overs, with both Shetty and Vasuki Koushik taking two wickets a piece.
The failure added to Gill’s lean run in red-ball cricket. Across his last 11 innings, the right-hander now averages 25.64, crossing the 50-run mark just once. He recently had a forgettable Test outing against Australia, where he averaged 18.60 across the three Tests that he played in the five-match 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Gill was one among three Indian Test players to have a forgettable morning. Both Rohit Sharma (3) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) also departed cheaply to make it an outing to forget for Indian Test stars.
