Shubman Gill Motivates Me To Do Better: Suryakumar Yadav

Gill, who is the Test and ODI captain, was recently appointed Surya's deputy in T20Is

It's no secret that Shubman Gill is next in line to take over as India's T20 International (T20I) captain once Suryakumar Yadav steps aside. Gill has already taken over the mantle in Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODI) and is the vice-captain of the T20I side.

With Gill literally breathing down Surya's neck, does he feel the pressure? The T20I skipper says that it only motivates him to perform better.

“It motivates you to do better. The camaraderie between the two of us is amazing off the field and on the field. I know the kind of player he is, the kind of human being he is. It helps me to do well myself. I left fear long back. I believe if I am following everything that has to be followed, working really hard, everything will be taken care of. But I am really happy for him. He has done really well," Surya said on Express Adda.

Speaking of his captaincy mantra, Surya said he is a very relaxed sort of leader and lets bowlers have it their way more often than not.

“I am very relaxed on the ground, even when I am under pressure. During fielding, I smile. I let the bowlers have their say. There are a lot of things going in a bowler’s mind. It is a team and it is important to listen to everyone. Everyone brings very different things to the table,” he said.

The 35-year-old, who led India to a 2-1 series win over Australia recently, will be in action for the T20Is against South Africa, starting December 9.
