Shubman Gill remains hopeful of KKR making the playoffs

The two-time IPL champions are currently in seventh place, having picked up just four points from seven matches

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Shubman Gill believes that his side still remain in contention for a place in the playoffs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. KKR currently remain in seventh position with just four points from seven matches this season.

"I think we are very much in contention to finish in top 4. Whichever team qualifies, you never know what will happen," Gill told KKR website.

"Hopefully we will win the remaining matches, make sure we qualify and then we'll see where we go from there."

Gill, who was ruled out of the England Tests is now available for the second half of the tournament after recovering from his shin injury. In the first half of the tournament, Gill managed just 132 runs at 18.85, unable to convert his starts. Speaking of the UAE leg of IPL 2021, Gill said, "If we keep doing what we have done in the past years and just enjoy our game, then is possible that we will do well or qualify."

The premier T20 league, which was cut short in India due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, resumes from September 19 in the UAE.

The two-time IPL champions will resume their campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Abu Dhabi on September 20.
